The
Celtic Tavern first opened it's doors on May 28, 2000. The previous
owner was excited to take an order from the very first Celtic customer and
felt The Celtic Tavern was on it's way.
By the fall of 2001, a new plan to re-model had begun.
The plan included expanding the bar with a full interior face lift which
opened the door for the Tavern to become a full-service restaurant.
The Restaurant and Bar is located in the middle of
Olde Town Conyers on Commercial St. in a historic building which housed
many businesses over the years; one most memorable business was a Barber
Shop on the Cafe side. The original marble walls and floors are
still in tact with the actual barbers names still listed in the marble,
along with the price list for a shave and haircut. And in the back
of the building leading to the City's park area still sits the historic
"First public shower in Rockdale County" for 10 cents a
pull. Established 1906.
Nov.
1, 2004 marked the first day of business for new owners Holly and Walt
Sammons. The Sammons family is excited about continuing The Celtic Tavern
tradition, they have some great ideas and are making some changes. They
look forward to making new friends, the continuing growth of Olde Town
Conyers and The Celtic Tavern. A joining room next door to the Tavern was
changed from a Pool Room to a Cafe style area for private parties and a
more intimate dining area. The Tavern area and Bar will keep its original
style and personality with its friendly bar including domestic and
imported beers, and of course Guinness on draft. A new menu is also being
planned adding more Irish selections and a wine list is on its' way.
The Celtic Tavern host a variety of weekly
entertainment. There is something happening each night of the week
(Except
Mondays).

The Celtic Tavern is located on Commercial Street in
Old Town Conyers. If you're a local you should be able to find it using
the map below. For you travelers, we have included some written
directions from I-20 after the map.
Directions From I-20:
- Take Exit 80, West Avenue and head
North. If you're coming from Atlanta you'll take a left at the
top of the ramp. If you're coming from Covington you'll take a
right at the top of the ramp.
- Proceed north on West Avenue until you get to
Green Street. It's not very far and there is a red light at
the intersection. There's an Exxon on the left and a Bulldog
Tire Store on the right. Take a right on Green Street.
- Go to the next light and take a left.
This should be Center Street.
- Go over the railroad tracks and take an
immediate right
onto Railroad Street.
- Go to the end of Railroad Street and follow it
to the left. When you get to the stop sign you'll take a left
onto Commercial Street.
- The Celtic Tavern will be up ahead on the
right. You can park anywhere on Commercial Street or Railroad
Street. Hopefully, you won't have to park any further than
that.
